In The Market For Cheap Roller Blinds?

October 1st, 2009

Roller blinds offer an easy, convenient method for controlling the amount of light entering a room. Available in a variety of shades and colors, the right roller blinds can complement the existing décor of your home and add a custom touch to your windows. Consumers will find a wide assortment of cheap roller blinds on the market; these versatile window treatments are available in prices to fit any interior decorating budget. Roller blinds range from blackout roller blinds, to basic standard models, to very complex motorized mechanisms.

Most roller blinds use either a spring roller mechanism or a continuous loop clutch roller assembly. The spring roller mechanism, as its name suggests, uses a spring to create tension and retract the blind upward when pressure is applied correctly. Continuous loop clutch roller assemblies, by contrast, use a continuous loop chain attached to a clutch lift which ensures a smooth, even raising and lowering motion for the blind.

For the standard type, metal roller tubes are desirable since they are more durable and offer a smoother action with fewer potential problems. A metallic hem rail, usually of a lightweight metal like aluminum, is also usually included to add proper weight to the blind itself and enable it to hang correctly. Push button release mechanisms allow the shade to be removed easily for cleaning, repair, or replacement, and are standard on many models of roller blinds. Some roller blind assemblies include a molded cassette profile cover to give a finished, custom look to the blinds. Heavy duty blinds may require more extensive mounting and bracketing hardware, and usually offer more durability and higher-grade materials.

Motorized roller blinds usually require a wall switch; this allows exact positioning of the shade at preset levels. Some outdoor roller blinds include a timer, which automatically opens and closes the blinds at the times you choose. Motorized blinds can be controlled individually or in a group, allowing complete control over light and privacy at the touch of a button. Some motorized blinds even include a remote control capability, allowing you to select the perfect position from the comfort of an armchair or sofa.

Blinds are generally available in vinyl or specially-treated fabric. Vinyl blinds offer several advantages for homeowners, as they are usually more durable than fabric and easier to clean. Vinyl is often available in designer shades to allow custom matching of existing home décor, making it an excellent choice for dedicated interior decorators. Vinyl can react poorly to prolonged exposure to high temperatures, however, cracking and stiffening over time. Fabric offers a more upscale look and a wider variety of textures and patterns, but is difficult to clean and tends to collect dust.

Cheap roller blinds can offer a cost-effective way to update your interior design, enhance your privacy, and filter light to provide you with a more comfortable environment. The right roller blinds can even lower your utility bills by creating an additional barrier against extreme temperatures. A small investment in roller blinds can make a big difference for your home.
